Wolves vs Non Wolves Guide by Jeakilo Wolves vs Non Wolves Guide by Jeakilo
Edit2: I will do this edit for those that insist on picking on the title I originally chose for this guide.
I would love to educate on each wolf and non-wolf species, however that wasn't the point of this guide - I think many people are getting the wrong idea. I was hoping to entice some away from wolves, and hopefully help some correct anatomy mistakes they may make without even knowing they do so. Please do not take this as a tutorial on just wolves, because it clearly is not.
I take no responsibility for what happens after the viewing of this guide. I encourage viewers to research the species you are about to draw further than this little picture guide.

Aaaaand the wolf(and other!) guide I said I was going to do.
I hope to God that I got those breeds right or I'm going feel like such an idiot. Weirdly I know way more about individual dog breeds than I do about wolf breeds sooo yea. I didn't add the fox as a dog-like species since theres so many varied breeds within them. I know I'm missing a ton, but these are the main ones people tend to draw.

Jackel was added pretty much for my own use.
Now back to working on Marked/KC :D I'll do another dog one eventually.

[Edit]

As said on my dog guide, these images are NOT MINE. If anyone has a problem with these photos, please tell me so I can substitute them :)

I didn't forget Iberian wolves xD I think my reasoning for not including those (and Arabian wolves, which I love~) was that I couldn't find good enough pictures to use for them at the time. I think some new Iberian pictures have been put up over the years though x3

oh, that would make a lot of sense. i have noticed their pictures have grown since you made his banner. it seemed like all of a sudden that they started to become more popular photography wise. so i see your point.

Ok I need help. I look at the Grey Wolf and the Mexican Wolf and, to me, they look the same. Can you perhaps tell me a little bit about the differences?

Nice guide!

However, I'm pretty sure the first image for the golden jackal is actually a black-backed jackal. I think you should have added the separate jackal species - y'know, the black backed jackal and side-striped jackal as well as the golden jackal.

Also, aren't there other subspecies for wolves? And I'm pretty sure the different subspecies for golden jackals and coyotes would also count too..

Still, good job on the guide.

Could be, you can't always trust google imagesearch P: I used the best pictures I could (since I needed ones from specific angles)

Yes, I didn't include all of the subspecies for everything- theres just too many. If I did EVERY subspecies in the canine world the guide would have hundreds of species =/

Yes, I was unsure of that (many sites are unclear about whether they are the same) when I wrote this guide.

Technically yes, the timber wolf and grey wolf are the same but the one name is used in europe while the other is used in America. Other than that they are the same. hope that helped :)

Also you might want to mention somewhere that maned wolves aren't wolves - they're a unique species all to themselves. :]

Apparently scientists have now discovered that the "Golden Jackal" is actually part of the grey wolf family and NOT teh jackal family. They're thinking of changing the name to "African Wolf" but they haven't done so yet

Wooo, muy bueno. Amé las referencias. Diagonal, frente, lado, cuerpo, patas.
Sólo quisiera de tamaño entre ellos y con humanos, pero creo haber visto uno así antes.
~No conocía "dhole"

Wooo, very good. I loved the references. Diagonal, front, side, body, legs.
Just like in size between them and humans, but I have seen one like that before.
-- I didn't know "dhole"

Thanks =)

They totally do. If ethiopian wolves had a lighter coloring and not such dramatic white markings, they would look even closer.
I believe they both live within the same area, which would explain it O:

they do but to the point where theyre basically the same species and the only difference is the dna is kinda a shocker hell theyre barks are similar as well

They still have quite a few differences, they're just fairly subtle ^^ I believe the Ethiopian wolf is quite a bit larger in size (jackals are tiny little things..) for example..
Its mexican wolves (or most wolves really) and coyotes that are basicaly the same, aside from DNA.
